Man kills wife as marital discord turns fatal
New Delhi: A 22-year-old woman was strangled with a clutch wire by her husband at Bonta Park in North district on Friday. The accused husband was arrested after few hours of the murder.
The police said that the deceased, Komal, was married to Manoj Kumar in July 2015. The couple had a court marriage. They had met each other at a bar where Komal worked and Manoj was a frequent visitor. Just after six months into their marriage, the couple had a strained relationship as they used to fight frequently over trivial issues. Infuriated over regular fights, Komal left her in-laws’ place and shifted to her parent’s house in Raghubir Nagar. However, Manoj often visited her house and persuaded her to stay with his family in Ghevra area of Kanjhawala, where he runs a kirana store.
“She stayed at her in-laws’ house for a few weeks recently. But the couple fought over some petty issue and she left the house again and was staying with her parents,” said a senior official.
On Friday evening, Manoj visited his in-laws’ house to meet Komal. He asked her to accompany him, saying he had planned a surprise for her.
“He took her to Bonta Park at around 8 pm. There, he asked her to close her eyes and turn around as he had a surprise for her. When she closed her eyes, he strangled her with a clutch wire that he had bought from the market before visiting his in-laws’ house,” said Jatin Narwal, DCP (North).
Just after killing his wife, Manoj left Bonta Park and called one of his friends, who stays near his house in Kanjhawala. He told the latter about the murder.
“We got the tip off about the crime from Manoj’s friend. We immediately laid a trap and detained Manoj. He was taken to the park at 12 am but he was drunk and unable to spot the crime location,” said an official attached with Kanjhawala police station. Thereafter, the Civil Lines police station was also alerted about the incident. A team of 20 policemen searched the park and finally spotted the body at 12 pm on Saturday.
