Railway coach catches fire in Cantt station

New Delhi: In separate incidents, fire broke out in a camping coach used by railway staff at the Delhi Cantonment Railway Station on Thursday, while in another incident a fire broke out in Nirman Vihar in the capital on Thursday.

In the first incident, a fire broke out in an empty stationary coach on Thursday at the Delhi cantonment railway station in the city following which three fire tenders were rushed, officials said. The fire was doused within an hour and no one was injured.

A fire official said that “A fire call in an empty coach at the Delhi cantonment station was received at 2.45 pm following which three fire tenders were rushed to the spot.” “The fire was doused at 3.30 pm. No one was injured in the incident,” the fire official said.

According to a railway official, no major damage to railway property has taken place in the overhead cable or other railway property except to the coach. The fire was controlled in time.”

He said that first smoke from the camp coach, used for repair work, was detected by a few railway employees at the yard and they alerted fire officials.

Senior railway officials were at the spot to ascertain the reason for the fire, the official said.

In another incident, a fire broke out on the second floor of Nirman Bhawan on Thursday, according to the Delhi Fire Services.

However, no injuries were reported. A call was received at 10.05 am about the fire at Nirman Bhawan and five fire tenders were rushed to the spot. The raging fire was doused within 15 minutes.

An air-conditioner and a chair, which had caught fire in room number 250 located on the second floor of Nirman Bhawan, according to an official from the fire services.  The Nirman Bhawan houses the Union urban development ministry.
