40 public services at doorstep from next year in Delhi

New Delhi: Public services such as caste and pension certificates, driving license, new water/sewer connection, etc. — for which Delhiites have to otherwise stand in long queues — will now be provided to residents at their doorsteps for a nominal fee.

The Delhi government has decided to provide 40 such services to citizens at their homes with just a call to a call centre number.

Making this announcement on Thursday, deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia said that the scheme would be rolled out in two to three months. The decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Calling it a “home delivery of governance,” Mr Sisodia explained the scheme and said that a call centre would be set up where people can call and register their details. Following this, a specialised representative will visit the applicant’s house and get the required documents.

He said that the government would hire a private agency to implement the scheme.

“Mobile Sahayaks (facilitators) will be hired through the agency that would set up call centres. Various certificates such as caste, new water connection, income, driving licence, ration card, domicile, marriage registration, duplicate RC, and change of address in RC, will be covered under the scheme in the first phase,” the deputy chief minister informed.

Apart from these 40 services, there will be an addition of a minimum of 30-35 services to the scheme every consecutive 30-day, from the day of roll out, till all services are covered.
