“The vehicle was spotted concealed in Tughlaqabad village when staff of Govindpuri police station were patrolling ahead of Independence Day,” he said, adding that the accused wasn’t found on the same day. The police has recovered two more vehicles on his instance. The vehicle thief wanted to modify the Gypsy and use it as an adventure vehicle on road trips, added Mr Baaniya.

Its driver had parked it in Kotla Mubarakpur village after duty on August 5 to find it missing the next morning. With Independence Day celebrations just days later, the police had launched a massive hunt to recover the car. “We got inputs regarding stolen cars parked at a parking lot on Tughlaqabad.
