New Delhi: A fresh spells of rains that left the city cooler proved tragic for a family after their 20-year-old son was electrocuted after he came in contact with a high-tension wire that was hanging precariously on the middle of the road in Kiradi, on Friday morning, under Aman Vihar police station limits.

The police said that the deceased identified as Sachin Mittal, a resident of Gaurav Nagar in Delhi’s Rohini area and BBA student, was travelling on his scooty, headed for his tuition classes, when the incident took place. The mishap was captured on CCTV cameras installed nearby.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 7.30 am in Prem Nagar’s 70-feet road. Probe revealed that Sachin’s tuitions were held in Prem Nagar and he went for tuition on a daily basis. On Friday, he left for the classes when heavy rains drenched the city late on Thursday  night and resulted in water logging and broken wires. A police official said that as Sachin turned his scooty at 70-feet road and entered the bylane, he came in contact with a live wire that had broken from a nearby electrical pole. When Sachin’s scooty touched the wire it electrocuted him.

The voltage made Sachin fall along with his vehicle. People passing by rushed to his rescue and moved him to a Mangolpuri’s Sanjay Gandhi hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival. The police said that according to the locals, the broken wire was a result of heavy rains. The wires used to provide internet connections to nearby houses.

The body was handed over to the parents later in the day.
