Govt to spend Rs 597 crore on project, 1,000 city schools to be benefited.

New Delhi: As many as 1.46 lakh CCTVs will be installed in over 1,000 Delhi government schools in six months at an estimated cost of Rs 597 crore, public works department (PWD) minister Satyendar Jain said on Wednesday.

The CCTVs will be installed in classrooms and open areas, except bathrooms. The proposal will be soon placed before the cabinet for approval.

Mr Jain said that a tender has been floated and seven companies have participated in the bidding process. The Minister said that 1,46,800 closed-circuit televisions will be installed in 1,028 city schools.

“The dome camera will be placed in classrooms, bullet cameras shall be placed in corridors and open areas, PTZ cameras shall be placed at the main gate etc. LED screen for each principal of school will be provided for live viewing of the video feed,” the proposal approved by the Delhi government’s Expenditure and Finance committee stated.  

The CCTV footage will be stored in each school and automatically erased after 30 days, the minister said adding that parents will be issued an ID and password to view footage on the phone through a mobile application.

“An agency will be responsible for the execution of work and comprehensive maintenance for 5 years, which includes the replacement of defective cameras. High speed Internet connection of appropriate bandwidth will be provided to school through the Internet provider,” it added.

For health check up of the entire system, Centralised Command centre will be made for quick remedial action, in case of failure. “Total cost of project will be Rs 597.53 crore (Rs 384.85 crore for execution and Rs 57.69 crore for maintenance for five years. Rs 154.97 crore for Internet connection charges for lease line for five years. The project will be completed by March 31, 2019,” it added.
