Kapil Mishra at CBI HQ, says has ‘proof’ against Kejriwal

New Delhi: A day after he ended his fast, ousted Delhi minister Kapil Mishra on Tuesday approached the CBI to submit “irrefutable proof” of corruption against chief minister Arvind Kejriwal over his alleged involvement in money laundering.

Earlier on Sunday, Mr Mishra had alleged that close aides of Mr Kejriwal, which includes two AAP MLAs, had links with “shell” companies which donated funds worth “crores of rupees” to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The AAP chief, Mr Kejriwal, hid this information from the income tax department and the Election Commission, he had claimed during his dramatic Sunday news conference, which ended with him fainting. Shell companies are non-trading firms which are sometimes used as fronts to carry out illegal transactions.

“A person who came riding on the promise to fight the country’s corrupt political system, to fight elections using donations from small sources, stands exposed today,” Mr Mishra told reporters. The suspended AAP leader alleged that Mr Kejriwal attempted to run the AAP using black money. Soon after his ouster from the city Cabinet, he had alleged that he saw Mr Kejriwal take Rs 2 crore bribe from health minister Satyendar Jain. But he is yet to support his allegations with any proof. The rebel AAP leader had been on a six-day fast in protest against the AAP’s “refusal” to disclose the details of the foreign tours of his five party leaders.

The AAP, however, claimed that its funding is clean. “The Congress and the BJP have both been indicted over illegal fundings by the Delhi high court in March 2014,” party leader Atishi Marlena said. “Both parties lie about AAP’s funding to malign the party’s image,” AAP spokesperson Dilip Pandey said.
