New Delhi: In a tragic incident, three students lost their lives and five others sustained serious injuries after the car they were travelling in lost balance and fell off a flyover in West Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh area on Monday morning. The car fell from a height of 30 feet and the impact was such that it turned turtle and fell flat on the ground. The students were on their way to write a exam in Narela’s IP college.

All the seven students are studying Bachelors of Business Administration at the Delhi Institute of Professional Studies in Rohini. Seven friends, Sanchit, Ritu, Pranav, Garima, Rishab and Rajat were on their way to appear for their first exam of the second semester. Since the exam centre was in a college at Narela, they all decided to assemble at Rajat’s house in East Punjabi Bagh area and then head towards the exam centre.

They all assembled at around 8 am and then left for their exam centre. Rajat was behind the wheels. As the car was approaching the Rohtak road flyover, the driver of the car lost balance and hit the side of the flyover.

The car then rammed inside the green mesh and after tearing it apart, fell from the flyover. Eyewitnesses and locals who took the bodies out revealed that initially, they thought the car had banged someone and within seconds, they saw the car falling from the flyover. “The car turned turtle and fell flat on the ground. There was a loud sound and we all ran towards the car. First, we turned the car and then started taking out the bodies,” said Manish.

He further added that since the car was locked, they broke it open using bricks and pulled out the bodies. “There were cigarette packets and books in the car. We called the police who reached the location and then took away the bodies. When we pulled them out, all of them were unconscious and only of them had his eyes open,” added Manish.

It took the police over 15 minutes to pull the students out as the car was completely damaged. The police even called the fire department to help pull out the occupants as the car’s doors and roof was completely crushed.

According to the police, the Honda City car belonged to Rajat and he had a driving license with him. “Sanchit and Ritu were declared brought dead at the hospital while Rajat succumbed to his injuries in the noon,” said DCP Vijay Kumar. The forensic team was called in to inspect the location. The rear tyre of the car burst and the police is checking if the tyre burst led to the accident.
