New Delhi: While “Operation Romeo” in Uttar Pradesh and “Operation Durga” in Haryana has drawn a lot of flak for their aggressive vigilantism, often at the cost of young love, it seems the Delhi police is silently cracking down on eve teasers by forming teams of their own. In a major crackdown against eve teasers, the Delhi police under “Operation Shishtachar,” an initiative launched in 2015 to teach eve teasers and stalkers a lesson, has taken legal action against 3189 people during the month of January and February.

According to a senior police official, female cops dressed in civil dresses deployed at various places like shopping malls, schools, university campuses, and areas with a large migrant population were found to be the most vulnerable to eve teasing. “Under ‘Operation Shishtachar,’ women constables posing as general public were sent to various areas vulnerable to eve teasing. They were well trained in self-defence and supported by backup force from the local police station. They detained eve teasers who harassed women in market places or any other public places,” said a officer.
