New Delhi: The Delhi BJP has lodged a police complaint against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alleging that chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and his party is intimidating voters through its posters over water and electricity tariff hike.

“Mr Kejriwal has been threatening Delhiites, saying that if BJP comes to power in the civic bodies, electricity and water tariffs will increase. It is hooliganism! The chief minister and his party are directly threatening the people of Delhi,” said Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari.

He said that BJP has lodged a complaint with the police and the State Election Commission (SEC), seeking ‘appropriate and strict action’ against the Delhi chief minister and AAP.

By “threatening” voters, the ruling AAP is using a trick widely popular in the remote corner of the country,” Mr Tiwari said.

The complaint against AAP and its chief was filed by the BJP Legal Committee on Delhi BJP president’s directions. He had raised objection to the statement made by Mr Kejriwal on April 10.

The party also lodged a complaint with the SEC against Mr Kejriwal for calling the Election Commission “Dhritara-shtra,” the blind king from the epic Mahabharata, and BJP its son “Duryodhana.”

“As Dhritarashtra helped his son Duryodhana grab power, the Election Commission is similarly helping BJP by using all means possible (Saam, Daam, Dand, Bhed),” Mr Kejriwal had said on April 10.

“Appropriate action must be taken against Mr Kejriwal for his comment against the Election Commission and misleading charges against BJP. We will not allow AAP to threaten voters in the name of tariff hike of water and power. Are civic bodies responsible for water or power tariff hike? After losing people’s faith, Mr Kejriwal is misleading people and threatening them,” said the Delhi BJP chief.
