Anil Baijal reviews police’s cyber crime roadmap

The LG reviewed the Delhi police’s roadmap in the three years to combat cyber crime.

New Delhi:  Asserting that capable human resource is the key to combat cyber crime, lieutenant governor (LG) Anil Baijal on Thursday said that the personnel should be incensitivised from the induction stage itself. 

The LG reviewed the Delhi police’s roadmap in the three years to combat cyber crime. Mr Baijal directed the officials concerned to take up new areas such as network forensics, cloud forensics, advance mobile forensics.

A year-wise roadmap for three years was also discussed in the meeting. “The LG stressed upon periodic assessment and review of the progress made upon them, so that the work can be accomplished in a time bound manner,” a statement from LG house said. 

“The LG also desired that effective awareness campaigns be launched as a preventive measure to educate the people about the precautions that they must take, while using gadgets and before imparting with any personal sensitive information,” it added. 

Mr Baijal directed the Delhi police officials on building a skilled, capable and dedicated human resource because that would be its primary weapon in combating cyber crime. He advised Delhi police to suitably incentivise existing personnel in this regard besides making appropriate modifications to its recruitment procedures for inducting the best talent available to help it fight cyber crime effectively.

The Delhi police made a detailed presentation regarding prevalent cyber crimes and the measures to check them. Mr Baijal was briefed about the various issues and the multi-level structure including cyber teams/cells from the police station and centralised cyber crime units. 

“The presentation covered various aspects like gathering of actionable intelligence, forensics, investigation and prosecution as well as awareness and training programmes,” it added.
