The RSS wants the BJP to wait till December 31, gauge the mood of people and then “celebrate” if the situation demanded.

New Delhi: Delhi BJP’s much-hyped move to distribute laddoos across the national capital thanking people for their “overwhelming support” of Modi government’s demonetisation scheme virtually failed to take off on Wednesday with the saffron brigade’s big brother RSS deciding to put a brake on it. Also some of the party functionaries who did visit houses to offer laddoos were politely told to leave by the occupants who had had enough of standing in long queues to withdraw their “own hard-earned money.”

Sources revealed that the Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari’s much flaunted move to say “thank you with sweets” did not go down well with the RSS. Aware that people across the country were seething following the cash crunch, a section of top RSS leaders indicated that distribution of  laddoos at this juncture was too “premature”.

The RSS wants the BJP to wait till December 31, gauge the mood of people and then “celebrate” if the  situation demanded. Incidentally, Mr Tiwari had already announced that the laddoo distribution, which was to kick off from Wednesday, would continue till January 1.

A Delhi BJP  leader said; “RSS was not happy over our decision to offer laddoos to people at the moment.” The RSS brass made it catgorically clear that the state units must “assess the mood of people  and then decide what to do”.

However, Mr Tiwari’s men did fan out early in the morning and distributed laddoos to some areas before calling off the campaign. They distributed laddoos in Rajendra Nagar in Central Delhi and Mehrauli in South Delhi. Putting up a brave front, Delhi BJP in-charge Shyam Jaju said that there were “no differences” with the RSS over the issue.
