New Delhi: Infighting within the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) emerged on Friday when a section of Delhi Congress’ leaders asked All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge P.C. Chacko to step down from his post, alleging him for the poll debacle in the national capital.

On Friday, senior DPCC leader Rohit Manchanda alleged that Mr Chacko “misbehaved” with him at DPCC office on Friday. However, Mr Chacko has denied the allegation made by the former.

“I was there to greet him but he lashed out at me and said that he will ensure that leaders like me have no right to be there in Delhi Congress. I demand Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi to replace him with some other leader as the in-charge of Delhi Congress,” Mr Manchanda told the media.

He said that after Congress’ humiliating defeat in the parliamentary polls in Delhi, he had written a Facebook post demanding Mr Chacko’s resignation, which could be the reason why he was “berated” by the senior leader.

However, Mr Chacko denied the allegation. “The party has lost the recently held Parliamentary election and the Assembly and MCD polls in 2015 and 2017 under the leadership of Chacko. If our national president Rahul Gandhi and former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit can think of resigning by taking the moral responsibility of the defeat, why should Chacko also not resign?” said a party leader.
