On PM’s advice, city BJP to hold mock parliament on February 25

New Delhi: Acting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s advise, Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari will organise a ‘mock parliament’ on February 25 inside Parliament premises.

Mr Tiwari told this newspaper that 600 youngsters will participate in the ‘mock parliament’. The event will be organised at GMC Balayogi Auditorium of Parliament. Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan will be the chief guest of the event.

Winners of the mock parliament will be given a trophy, copy of the Indian Constitution and Parliamentary procedure, and later all the participants will be given an opportunity to witness live proceeding of parliament, Mr Tiwari said.

On February 9, the PM asked the BJP’s parliamentarians to meet different sections of society through mock parliaments where several initiatives of the government will be discussed.

Talking about holding a similar event inside Parliament premises, Mr Tiwari said that the event was designed so as to to share the finer points of Modi government by the participants by providing a parliamentary atmosphere. And there is none better than GMC Balayogi Auditorium inside Parliament, he added

Mr Tiwari said that the participants would elect their own government, opposition and speaker. “They will debate on several topics; Among them the top three will be selected winner. They will be selected on basis of their knowledge and performance in real-time situations,” Mr Tiwari added.

Due to overwhelming response, registration for participation for mock parliament has been closed.

“Due to overflow of applications, we have stopped accepting new ones. For 600 participants, we have received more than 3,000 applications, now among these participants will be selected,” said a source, who is overseeing the preparation of mock parliament.

Sources claimed that 600 participants from different sections such as students, women, professionals and others will be shortlisted to participate in the main event on February 25.

“If required a small interview will conducted,” the source added.
