New Delhi: A businessman from Haryana died on the spot and his companion critically injured after an unknown speeding vehicle hit them from behind on the G.T. Karnal Road in Alipur on Wednesday.
The police said that one of the victims — identified as Ashok Kumar (57) from Ambala died — on the spot and his friend — Manoj Madan (47) — from Yamunanagar was battling for life at Fortis Hospital, Shalimar Bagh.
The victims’ car driver Kulbeer Singh, an eyewitness of the accident, informed the police about the incident and a case been registered against the unknown persons.
According to the police, Manoj runs a plywood business while Ashok owns a company manufacturing hospital equipments. Both of them were in Delhi to attend two marriages on Sunday. Manoj came to Delhi along with Ashok and his driver Kulbeer in his car. After attending a wedding in Nanglipoona they left for another wedding in Alipur.
When they reached near Jain Mandir on G.T. Karnal Road, there was heavy traffic on the road. So they told their driver to get the car as they are walking down to the venue as it was nearby.
As they were crossing the road, a black colour speeding car hit then from behind. As a result, the duo flung in air and crashed on the road.
Kulbeer took both of them to the hospital where doctors declared Ashok dead while Manoj, who is still critical, was undergoing treatment, the police said.
