Industrial areas must shift to PNG by Sept, says L-G Anil Baijal

New Delhi: Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Monday directed the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to expedite the process of shifting to non-polluting fuel (PNG) in the industrial areas by September 30. He also directed the agencies to brace themselves for the upcoming winter season to contain air pollution or smog. Mr Baijal chaired a meeting at Raj Niwas convened by EPCA where he reviewed the progress on improvement works related to Anand Vihar ISBT area; air Pollution status in Jhilmil, Sahibabad and Ghaziabad industrial area and waste disposal problem of Narela and Bawana industrial area.

Member Secretary (DPCC) informed the L-G that the work of converting industries to PNG as a fuel in all industrial areas is going on including Patparganj, Jhilmil and Friends Colony industrial area. The L-G directed DPCC to speed up the pro-cess of conversion of fue-ls to PNG in industrial areas and complete it by September 30, a statement from Raj Niwas said.

“The L-G was infor-med about the traffic management near Anand Vihar ISBT. Delhi police infor-med that traffic Police has deployed staff at all five major choking points on daily basis. Chairman (EPCA) desired that the posted officials to be present throu-ghout the day. He further directed UP Police also to make similar arrangements,” the statement added.

Commissioner, EDMC informed that they have removed all unauthorised encroachments, except some who have obtained restraint orders from high court.

He informed that vacation application will be filed by end of this month. It was also infor-med that EDMC has constructed toilets, which are being operated and maintained by Sulabh International.

“Chairman, EPCA instructed Northern Railways to finalise their work by constructing second approach road at the earliest. Transport Department was instructed to complete RFID and rotary work at the earliest. He noted that the toilet complex has been completed by Transport Department, Delhi,” it added.

Member Secretary (DPCC) informed that plantation is in progress by Forest Department and 1000 saplings have already been planted along IF&CD drain in vacant area at Anand Vihar. The L-G finally directed all the agencies to prepare for coming winter season so that air pollution is contained in Delhi. Chairman (EPCA), asked all agencies to expedite the work on ground.
