Spurious liquor kills 4, SHO suspended

The one taken ill has been identified as Sriniwas.

Ghaziabad: In a tragic incident, four persons died and one was taken ill after consuming illicit liquor. Following this, four policemen, including the area SHO, were suspended in Khora locality, the police said on Tuesday.

The victims have been identified as Sandeep (18), Avneesh (25), Ashok Kumar (45), and Ravendra (36). The one taken ill has been identified as Sriniwas.

His condition turned critical after consuming hooch on Monday night. Moments later, Sandeep, Ashok, and Avinash fell unconscious and were rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them “brought dead,” senior superintendent of police H.N. Singh said. Ravinder and Sriniwas were also admitted at the hospital. Ravinder died on Tuesday morning at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital in Delhi while Sriniwas is still undergoing treatment, Mr Singh said. “The police received an anonymous call, on Tuesday morning, informing about the victims,” SP (city) Akash Tomar said, adding that the caller said several persons consumed liquor, which they bought from an unauthorised vendor.
