New Delhi: A student from Delhi University allegedly mow-ed down a 52-year-old ped-estrian with his high-end BMW car on Wednesday night. The injured succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.

According to the police, the accused student, Anish Sahani (19), was arrested based on CCTV footage, which shows the driver fleeing the spot after hitting the victim in front of Kirorimal College.

The accused is a student of Khalsa College. Probe revealed that the accident took place on Wednesday afternoon. Anish was heading home in his BMW when he hit a pedestrian, Shivnath.

The impact of the accident was such that the latter was flung in the air before crashing down on the road.

He sustained critical head injuries and was rushed to Bara Hindu Rao Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

The police said that Shivnath (52), a resident of Jahangirpuri, used to work as a clerk in a private company. At the time of the accident, he was crossing the road when he was mowed down.

Initially, the identity of the deceased couldn’t be established. However, later the police found a mobile phone belonging to Shivnath, based on which his identity was established. His family was informed and on Saturday his body was handed over to them.

The police has registered a case of death due to rash and negligent driving and arrested Anish. Anish told the police that after accident he went home and didn’t tell anyone about the accident.

The police added that it managed to zero-in on the 19-year-old accused based on the CCTV installed nearby in which the colour of the car and its registration number got captured.
