New Delhi: With the first phase of placement season in Delhi University coming to an end, varsity college undergraduate students have broken records by receiving the highest salary offers in placements.

This year, many students from various DU colleges have been offered record salaries that even exceed the average offers received by management students. Among these, topping the list is North Campus located St. Stephen’s College which has bagged the highest package of Rs 40 lakh per annum while a student from South Campus’ Lady Shri Ram College for Women has been offered an annual top salary of Rs 34 lakh.

Among the top hirers in St. Stephen’s, management consultancy firm Arthur D Little offered placement for an international role in Middle East. Similarly, in Shri Ram College of Commerce, Parthenon-EY offered the highest package to 3 students with Rs 29.2 lakh per annum.

In addition to this, the placement cell of SRCC itself placed 120 students in some of the top companies, offering a variety of job profiles. McKinsey and Co. and A.T. Kearney offered the much vied for profile of consultancy paying more than Rs 15 lakh per annum, selecting 2 students for each. The investment banking firm, Deutsche Bank, yet again selected 5 students, paying more than Rs 15 lakh per annum as well.

“This is the best placement year for us so far, both in terms of the highest package and the number of offers,” said Smita Sharma, associate professor and placement in-charge at SRCC.

According to a placement cell official, all the big firms in the industry are now more interested in recruiting students beyond B Schools and IIMs because of which they come to Delhi University without minding shelling out big bucks.

“DU gives companies a wider pool and a diverse set of candidates from different disciplines. They find the students very bright with strong academic as well as extracurricular profile,” he said.
