Bihar MLA fall prey to snatchers

The MLA, peeved over police behaviour is now shot off a letter to the lieutenant governor’s secretary in this regard.

New Delhi: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA became the victim of a phone-snatching incident in the city when two motorcycle-borne youth snatched his iPhone and escaped the scene. The incident took place in Rohini’s Sector-23 on Tuesday evening.

Jibesh Kumar, a 44-year-old BJP legislator from Jalley constituency in Darbhanga, was targeted by two motorcycle-borne snatchers in Rohini’s Sector-23. Though the legislator tried to catch the pillion rider, but he failed and they vanished in few seconds. He immediately reached his home and informed police about the snatching.

Mr Kumar told the police that he was out for an evening walk outside the housing society he was residing in and was unaware of height of street crimes in Delhi. When snatchers targeted him when he was on a call during the walk.

Mr Kumar was in Delhi to meet his children who study here and live at Shanti Apartment in Sector 23.

“I immediately informed the police about the incident but its more than 60 hours there is no clue about my stolen item. Even I am not hopeful that I will get my stolen phone back,” said Mr Kumar.

He said he could not read the number plate of the bike as it all happened very swiftly. “In less than a second, they had snatched my phone and speed away. They were gone in no time,” Mr Kumar said, denying TV news reports that he was threatened.

He shouted for help a couple of times, but it was too late. “Locals told me later that there have been many cases of snatching around this apartment. A month ago, a young working woman’s new phone was snatched barely 100 metres away. Another woman’s handbag was snatched while she was getting off an auto,” he alleged.
