New Delhi: Following the complaints of similarity of questions in the Buddhist studies M.Phil and Ph.D entrance test, the Delhi University’s (DU) examination department has sought an explanation from the Buddhist department on the issue.

In a letter sent to the Buddhist department, the dean of the exam department has asked for the reason behind this error.

In demanding an inquiry committee against the HOD and alleged irregularities in the entrance test, four students sat on a relay hunger strike on Wednesday.

Student leaders Ashish Singh, Anshuman Singh, Mohit Lohchab and Neeraj Kumar have written a letter to the varsity’s vice chancellor Yogesh Tyagi demanding the cancellation of both the Buddhist studies M.Phil and Ph.D entrance test and re-conducting a fresh one.

“There has been continuous irregularities and fraud in the department of Buddhist studies. The issue of illegal MA syllabus and plagiarism in the department was also raised in the academic council meeting held on June 19. Candidates who appeared for the test complained that there was 70 per cent similarity in the questions of both the papers. A complaint signed by 13 aspirants filed to Prof. Tyagi stated that 37 out of 50 questions were the same in content and serial number.

“The hidden alliance of DU administration and HOD of the Buddhist department can be understood from the fact that though the issue of irregularities had been raised by the AC members, still the HOD has not been suspended,” said Mr. Singh. added.
