New Delhi: To decongest the INA Market-Andheria Mod stretch, a task force appointed by lieutenant-governor Anil Baijal has suggested the quick removal of pharmaceutical shops from AIIMS subway on Aurobindo Marg.

The task force has also directed the removal of eateries, restaurants, and commercial establishments near Adhchini. It has proposed setting up of a foot overbridge at Yusuf Sarai and the creation of stack parking at the vacant land of DDA near IOC building on Aurobindo Marg and Adhchini T-point for additional parking space.

The task force was set up following the directions of the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs to suggest ways and means to unclog major stretches across the national capital.

The five corridors that were taken up as pilot projects included Aurobindo Marg to Andheria Mor; Mathura Road (Neela Gumbad to Badarpur flyover); Savitri flyover (Chirag Dilli crossing to Savitri flyover); Dhaula Kuan flyover to CGR flyover Sanjay T-point; and the Sardar Patel Marg from 11 Murti to Dhaula Kuan.

The task force has also suggested some measures to decongest these stretches. To reduce traffic jam, the task force has directed Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to relocate the existing two CNG stations at Lado Sarai and Aurobindo Marg expeditiously.

It has also directed the agencies to take action against three unauthorised shops and restaurants at Lado Sarai T-junction. The force has directed relocation of the MCD toll booth.

The Savitri Cinema flyover and Chirag Dilli corridor is another traffic nightmare for commuters. The initial demand was to ease pressure on Chirag Dilli crossing by opening up an alternative route along Ring Road for Saket-bound vehicles.

To decongest the Mathura Road corridor, from Neela Gumbad to Badarpur flyover, the task force has directed the timely construction of a foot overbridge at Aali village.

Similarly, directions have also been issued for construction of foot overbridge at Ashram Chowk in a time bound manner. The task force has also directed agencies to initiate necessary action regarding improvement works at Amir Khusro Park.
