NEW DELHI: Lieutenant governor (LG) Anil Baijal on Friday directed the agencies to develop a mobile application to register complaints against auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers, who refuse to ply by meter.

While chairing the fifth meeting of task force on women safety, Mr Baijal also directed the municipal corporations and government agencies to stop use of acid for cleaning by January 31.

Stressing on the need for coordinated efforts among all stakeholders, the LG asked the agencies concerned to take help of the data available in identifying dark spots in the capital.

The LG was informed by the traffic police that presently a PCR van takes about five to 10 minutes to reach a particular spot from where the distress call is made and the efforts are underway to reduce the time taken further.

“At present, 600 PCR vans have already been deployed and a proposal for 541 more PCR vans is under consideration,” a statement from LG House said.

“Regarding improvement of lighting in public places, the NMDC informed that around 90 per cent of the identified dark spots have been illuminated, while the SDMC informed that it has provided lighting on approximately 17,365 identified darks spots.

The LG directed that the system be further strengthened to identify the dark spots.

On the status of GPS installation in public transport, Mr Baijal instructed that strict action, including cancelling the driver’s licence, be taken against those vehicles, such as auto-rickshaws and taxis, in which GPS is found to be not functioning.

The LG was informed that at present 20 fast track courts were functioning in the city.

“The commissioner, excise informed the LG that they have conducted several raids, joint inspections in a bid to check serving of liquor to the underaged and strict deterrent action, including cancellation of licence, be taken against the violators.
