New Delhi: A tempo on Friday rammed into a stationary DTC bus, killing two drivers of the public transporter and injuring six others. The DTC bus, of the Rohini depot 3, had broken down and was being repaired when the incident took place. Police arrested the mini-truck driver.

Police said that the accident took place in Rohini, where two DTC drivers were killed and six others injured on early Friday. The victims were mechanics and DTC staffers who were engaged in repairing the broken-down green low-floor bus parked by the roadside in Madhuban Chowk in Rohini. The police rushed the injured to various city hospitals for treatment and said two of them were in a serious condition.

The bus, operating between New Seemapuri and Sultanpuri, developed a snag around 11.30 pm on Thursday while passing through an underpass at Madhuban Chowk.

As per the police, Pramod Kumar, the bus driver, halted the bus and requested the passengers to de-board. He then parked the bus on the right hand side of the road and called for help.

As a mechanic worked under the bus, Mr Pramod and Sumit, the bus conductor, were engaged in diverting the traffic away from the bus. It was then that a motorcyclist hit Mr Sumit, fracturing his hand, the police said.

Mr Sumit and the injured motorcyclist were rushed to a hospital and the DTC sent additional help to repair the snag and manage the traffic. Sunil Kumar, a contractual driver, was also sent. Soon Mr Sunil and Mr Pramod took up the task of diverting the traffic away from the bus and showing light to the mechanics.

At 12.30 am, a speeding Tata 407 mini-truck rammed into the bus. The impact was such that Mr Sumit and Mr Pramod were sandwiched between the two vehicles. The mangled remains of Mr Pramod’s body entered the buss engine and could not be traced for two hours.
