Gurgaon women thrash molester, video goes viral

New Delhi: Weeks after a woman was gangraped and her eight-month-old daughter killed by rapists in Gurgaon, a video has surfaced in which a group of five to six women are seen hurling slippers at a man, who allegedly tried to molest them near the IT hub. In the video shared by news agency ANI on Sunday, the women are seen beating the alleged molester. As seen in the video shot on Saturday, people soon gathered around the man and the women.

According to the Gurgaon police, the incident took place on Saturday late night. The alleged molester was misbehaving with woman in full public view when other women gathered around and thrashed him. Despite claims made by the Gurgaon police, nothing constructive has been done by the police department on the ground level and women continue to remain unsafe on city’s streets.

The incident came to light after a one minute video went viral on social media. While the women were seen fighting their battle alone, the onlookers yet again seen tight-lipped and unfazed by the incident. The IT capital Gurgaon has dubious name with highest incidence of criminal activities among Indian cities, especially against women.

According to Gurgaon ACP Manish Sehgal, the police is deploying women constables at several locations in the city to ensure women’s safety.
