New Delhi: Two men were killed and three women injured when their car crashed into a traffic signal pole in north Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar, the police said on Sunday. The three girls, including the driver, sustained injuries.

The driver, identified as Diksha Dadu, (19), is a law student of Amity University. Dadu lost control of the overspeeding Hyundai i20 and rammed it into a traffic signal pole (at a T-point) in Hudson lines. The accident occurred at around 2.45 am.

Dadu’s medical legal case (MLC) revealed that she was under the influence of alcohol, while driving the car, a police officer said.

The police said the deceased have been identified as Ritesh (20) and Siddharth (19). Siddartha, a resident of Pitampura, was doing graduation from Maharaja Surajmal Shiksha Sansthan, Janakpuri, while Ritesh Dahiya hailed from Sonipat, Haryana and was studying BSc second-year at Venkateshwara College, Dhaula Kuan.

Apart from Dadu, Rashi Sharma (20) and Jyoshita Mohanty (21) were also in the car. While Rashi suffered a collarbone fracture, Dadu and Joshita, have been discharged after first aid. All three are studying law in Amity University.

The police have booked Dadu under Section 337 and Section 304 (a) of the Indian Penal Code.

As per the police, the students were returning from a party and were allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

The police suspect that the girl driving the car was under the influence of alcohol. Bottles of alcohol were recovered from the car. Medical reports are awaited for confirmation.

According to police sources, Dadu was driving without a valid driving license.
