Auto lifter involved in 400 theft cases arrested

New Delhi: In a major breakthrough, the police claimed to have caught an auto lifter allegedly involved in more than 400 vehicle theft cases. 

According to the police, with the arrest of the auto lifter, identified as Mohammad Imran, 34, east Delhi police team has worked out 21 cases of auto thefts of Delhi-NCR. The accused, involved in 23 cases of auto theft, has admitted to have been involved in more than 400 incidents of auto theft during the past nine years.

Investigation has revealed that on April 6, head constable Jitender received a tip off about an auto liter coming to the Paper market in Ghazipur on a stolen mobike. The head constable and contable Anil further developed the information and thereafter, sleuths of AATS east district laid a trap for him. After waiting for a while, a person on a mobike motorcycle was seen coming from Khoda Colony side. 

After getting a signal from the informer, he was stopped by the AATS team. Though he tried to escape from the spot, he was quickly overpowered and arrested by the AATS. 

During questioning, Imran admitted to having a hand in the theft of more than 400 auto theft incidents during the past nine years.

With his arrest, as many as 21 cases of auto theft hav been solved so far, the police said. According to police, the accused used to steal motorcycles from outside banks and commercial places. The police said that Imran sed to come to the capital or Ghaziabad by bus from Meerut and go back on the stolen motorcycle. 

Sometimes, when he stole many bikes on a particular day, he used to keep them at an unidentified parking site.
