New Delhi: The Delhi government on Tuesday approved concessional passes for students commuting in air-conditioned and cluster scheme buses, an official statement said. The decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting chaired by Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.

“The student passes would be issued to all beneficiary institutions in accordance with the said regulation. The reimbursement of subsidy to the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) will be done as per the prevailing pattern,” it said.

The passes will be available for bona fide students of educational institutions in Delhi, recognised by the universities, as well as those schools and institutions affiliated to the Delhi government, Central government, and the municipal corporations.

The facility would also be available to mentally challenged students of the institutions run by the government, local bodies, or government aided societies.

The Cabinet also decided that 80 per cent of existing number of contract workers hired by a contractor for discharging government services will be retained in case of a new contract. The government also gave in-principle nod to soon hire 6,000 more home guards, said an official statement.

Delhi government gives service or manpower contract for various purposes to contractors who hire workers. When the contract period expires or the contractor is changed, fresh manpower is hired and those working earlier are removed, it said.

The Cabinet also decided to amend the Home Guards Rules, 2008, to increase disengagement age of home guards from 50 to 60 years.

The home guards are a body of volunteers, who are assigned, from time to time, duties related with protection of persons, security of property, and public safety.
