New Delhi: In a huge relief to the residents of Nangloi, Dhansa, Bahadurgarh and adjoining areas, the Centre has approved the 1.18 km extension of the Delhi Metro from Najafgarh to Dhansa bus stand. The project will be constructed at a cost of Rs 565 crore.

The underground extension, which is scheduled for completion by 2020, is estimated to serve the travel needs of 10,000 more Metro passengers per day, the urban development ministry said in a release.

It will cater to the travelling needs of the residents of Nangloi, Dhansa, Bahadurgarh and the adjoining areas, it said.

“Of the total cost of the project, the Central government will provide Rs 107 crore. The Japanese Inte-rnational Cooperation Agency will contribute Rs 323 crore, while the Delhi government will bear the remaining cost,” the release said.

As per the 2016 estimates, 3.61 lakh vehicle trips are generated at Najafgarh. “Since the area between Najafgarh and Dhansa is densely populated, including substantial built up areas, the extension to Dhansa bus stand has been made underground,” the release said.

The work on the Najafgarh-Dhansa bus stand extension is likely to start in July this year. The ministry also said the 4.50-km Dwarka-Najafgarh Metro section, approved in September 2012, was likely to be completed by December this year.

Work on Najafgarh-Dhansa Bus Stand extension is likely to start in July this year since the line alignment survey has already been completed and tenders called for.
