Couple arrested for cheating, fleeing with victims’ cars

New Delhi: Delhi police arrested a couple, who duped people by posing as executives of an automobile dealer and fleeing off with their vehicles on the pretext of car servicing. 

Following a tip off, the police managed to arrest the accused on Saturday from Ring Road. A K10 car, six mobile phones and one stolen mobike were recovered from the couple’s possession. 

“During interrogation, the duo said that they are in love with each other and were planning to get married. Last year, in July, the man, identified as Devender Prasad, stole a bike from his teacher in Nihal Vihar and changed the number plates.” 

This gave him the requisite confidence and he along with his girlfriend planned to cheat people and escape with their cars and sell them in the grey market. 

Police said, “The girl bought old mobile phones from drug addicts and used a fake SIM card through which she called several people.” 

Vijay Kumar, DCP (West) said she made an appointment with the victim for servicing his/her car and sent her boyfriend to collect it ad flee with it. 

He also said that the girl’s experience of having worked in an automobile showroom came in handy;  she was not only conversant with cars, but also knew how to approach the victims. 

She called the victims by checking the record of cars for servicing and whose owners had asked for pick and drop facility. 

Prasad, who worked as a financial consultant with a private bank at Pitampura, approached the victims posing as an the executive of an automobile dealer and used to collect the car and make good his escape.
