New Delhi: AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, who hogged the headlines during his first stint as the chief minister of Delhi in 2013 by sitting on a hunger strike outside the Rail Bhavan, has once again threatened to repeat his act if the ongoing sealing issue is not solved before March 31.

To mount pressure on the BJP-led government at the Centre, Mr Kejriwal, on Friday, threatened that he will go on hunger strike if the matter was not resolved.

The Delhi CM made the statement while interacting with traders in Delhi’s Amar Colony market. Soon after, a video of the CM threatening went viral. He reiterated his party’s demand to bring an ordinance to deal with the issue.

“The sealing drive is being conducted across the city and all the traders are getting affected. If the MPs of all the three parties unite and shut the Parliament, a solution for the ongoing sealing drive will be reached within 24 hours. I have been visiting markets all across the city to understand the issue and have realised that modifications are required in the city’s master plan as well as legal changes are necessary,” the CM said.

“The Supreme Court has rejected the changes proposed in the master plan by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). The only solution is to bring an ordinance, which can save the markets and de-seal the already sealed shops. All of you should put pressure on respective parties. I will write to the PM and urge him to find a solution to this problem. Our party will raise the issue in both the Houses. We will also pass the proposal in the Assembly, which is starting from March 16, and send it to the Centre since the Parliament is in session and a relevant bill can be brought to combat the issue,” he added.

The drive had begun in December with the sealing of major shops and eateries in the posh Defence Colony. The actions were taken against the violation of the civic norms or the Master Plan of Delhi 2021, including misuse, encroachment of property, or use of residential property or unit for commercial purposes.
