ATM gives out Rs 2,000 note from ‘Children’s Bank of India’

New Delhi: In yet another case of fake currency note dispensed from an ATM in southeast Delhi area in February, a fake currency note of Rs 2,000 bearing the name of Children’s Bank of India was dispensed by an ATM of the ICICI Bank in Lajpat Nagar’s Amar Colony area on Thursday.

The incident was reported on March 7 when one Chandan, who works a in a private company, went to the ICICI Bank ATM to withdraw cash.

He informed the police that when he punched in the card details, a note of Rs 2,000 bearing the imprint of Children’s Bank of India was dispensed. By the time he realised that the note was fake, his bank account had been debited. Without wasting time, the victim informed the nearest police station.

A senior police officer said, “As against the last time where the investigating officer went to the SBI ATM and withdrew a Rs 2,000 note, in this case the investigating officer reached the spot and sealed the ATM machine. To avert any loss, the officer did not withdraw any cash.”

Romil Baaniya, deputy commissioner of police (southeast) said, “We have registered a case under Section 489C and 489 D of the Indian Penal Code at the Amar Colony police station.
