SAIL chief beaten in Hauz Khas road rage

The police said it has arrested two accused from the spot and prima facie it appears to be a case of road rage.

New Delhi: Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) chairman Anil Kumar Chaudhary was allegedly attacked by four persons in South Delhi’s Hauz Khas area on Wednesday night. The police said it has arrested two accused from the spot and prima facie it appears to be a case of road rage. However, it is investigating the incident from all angles.

The two arrested accused have been identified as Lalit, a resident of Dwarka, and Amardeep, a resident of Uttam Nagar area. The police said that it has initiated a manhunt to nab the remaining accused.

According to DCP (South district) Vijay Kumar, two bikes of the highway patrolling staff of the Defence Colony were out on their usual rounds at around 10.50 pm on Wednesday.

“When they reached the HUDCO near South Delhi’s August Kranti Marg, the patrolling team saw a man being beaten up by 2-3 men. The patrolling staff immediately rescued him and caught hold of two of the accused,” said the DCP.

He said that the two injured were identified as Mr Chaudhary and his driver N.K. Pathak, who were going towards Siri Fort.

“Chaudhury and his driver were rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where they were discharged after necessary treatment,” the DCP added.

“During investigation it was found that Chaudhary’s car was hit by another car occupied by four persons. As he and his driver stepped out of their car, one person from the other car caught the driver by his neck while the other three assaulted Chaudhary,” he said.

“The police has registered a case under Sections 307/34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Hauz Khas police station. Police teams have been formed, who are investigating the case from all possible angles. Police has also seized the car involved in the accident,” said the DCP, adding that further investigation is going on.

Meanwhile, SAIL said in a statement that Mr Chaudhary was brutally attacked when his car was intentionally hit by another car.

“As he and his driver came out of their car, one person from the other car caught the driver by his neck while the other three severely attacked Mr Chaudhary with iron rods. The assailants were also armed with knives. The driver was left unharmed,” the statement stated.
