SDMC conducts trial run for 2021 census

NEW DELHI: Trial run prior to 2021 census has begun in a select rural and urban localities of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC). For house listing purpose, 10 enumeration blocks for Ghumanhera ward and 65 enumeration blocks for Keshopur ward have been constituted. According to the nodal officer of the SDMC pre-test team, after the culmination of the house listing exercise, population enumeration for 2021 census will start on September 10 and culminate on September 30.

The nodal officer of the SDMC pre-test team on Wednesday said that it has started its exercise prior to 2021 census has to obtain preliminary information from the dwelling units under village Ghumanhera and Keshopur in urban area.

The pre-test exercise includes house listing by enumeration blocks and enumeration by the population enumeration staff. For house listing purpose, 10 enumeration blocks for Ghumanhera ward and enumeration blocks for Keshopur ward have been constituted.

“One teacher each in a block will contact at-least 100 to 150 houses to obtain information on the status of the house - ownership or rental, the type of construction i.e. kucha/pucca, provision of drinking water, toilets and drainage system, type of fuel being used in the kitchen and communication medium like mobile, landline and other information’s, there are a few numbers of questions to be asked out of a list of 34 queries,” he said.

A senior SDMC official pointed out that the house listing will continue from August 12 to September 3. After the culmination of the house listing exercise population enumeration for the 2021 census will start on September 10 and culminate on September 30.

The nodal officer concerned stated that the house listing is being conducted on traditional paper mode and the recently adopted mobile app. “This will facilitate to draw a conclusion about the feasibility of the mode at a wider level. Further, the population enumeration will generate awareness about the ensuing 2021 census, being conducted after every ten years,” he added.
