New Delhi: A 64-year-old retired teacher was arrested on Friday for allegedly killing his wife and daughter-in-law in Rohini here over suspicion of illicit relationships, the police said. The accused, identified as Satish Chaudhary, is a resident of Shiv Apartments in Rohini Sector 4, it said.

On Friday, at around 5.55 am, Satish’s younger son Saurabh Chaudhary (30) informed the police about the incident. He also got injured while trying to save the victims, a senior police officer said.

The police said that the incident took place at around 5.30 am.

The accused, a retired private teacher, has been arrested and the weapon of offence, a kitchen knife, has been recovered from the room, the police said.

According to the officer, Satish woke up and entered the room where his wife and daughter-in-law were sleeping. He first stabbed Pragya multiple times and when Snehlata came to rescue her, he also attacked her. Snehlata received one stab wound, he added.

“When the police reached the spot, it found Pragya Chaudhary (35), an air hostess, and her mother-in-law Snehlata Chaudhary (62), a retired DTC employee, in a pool of blood,” said DCP (Rohini) S.D. Mishra.

Saurabh said that when he was sleeping, he heard the cries of the victims. He tried to save them from his father, but was unsuccessful and got injured in his left hand. However, when he saw the neighbours’ gate opened, he pushed his five-year-old niece and one-year-old nephew into their house and later called the police.

The police rushed the victims to the hospital where they were declared brought dead, it said.

Their bodies have been preserved at Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital for post-mortem, which will be conducted on Saturday, the police said. Pragya’s husband, Gaurav Chaudhary, is a software engineer and is currently living in Singapore.

One of Prgaya’s family members said she was an air hostess and was planning to move to Gurgaon.

Saurabh is unmarried and works as a software engineer in Bengaluru, the police said.

A case under Sections 302 (punishment for murder) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the IPC has been registered at the Vijay Vihar police station, it added.
