New Delhi: At least 735 fresh cases of dengue were reported in the national capital in the last one week, taking the total number of cases of people affected by the vector-borne disease to 7,358.

According to a municipal report released on Monday, of the total 7,358 dengue cases, 3,829 were residents of Delhi and the rest were from other states who had come for treatment.

Earlier, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), which tabulates the data for entire city, had said that the official toll due to dengue this season was four, including a 26-year-old Moajeba, a jawan of Nagaland armed police, who was posted in Delhi for special duty.

The mosquito-borne tropical disease had claimed its first victim in the city this year when a 12-year-old boy died of dengue shock syndrome at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on August 1.

Individual hospitals have, however, recorded more dengue deaths which the SDMC has not acknowledged.

The number of malaria and chikungunya cases recorded in the city till the first week of November stood at 1,098 and 828 respectively, an increase of 16 and 76 respectively in the last week, the report said.
