Traffic jam foils bid to steal car

New Delhi: Plan to rob a Lieutenant Colonel of his Honda Car was thwarted when the suspect, who allegedly threw chilli powder in the eyes of the Armyman, tried to flee with the car but got stuck in the traffic jam. The police said that the incident took place on Wednesday night near the officer’s mess in the Delhi Cantt area, where the thief had gone with the Lt. Col. to take a test drive of the car.

The thief had made contact with the officer on OLX where he had posted an advertisement to sell his Honda Car.

According to the police, the thief, abandoning the car, ran for safety after he rammed it into the main gate of the officer’s mess in a bid to run away but got suck in jam. It all began when the serving Lt. Col. posted an advertisement on e-commerce portal OLX to sell his car. He was approached by a youth who showed interest in buying the car and fixed a meeting with the officer. As decided, the Lt. Col. went to the spot to meet the suspect in his Honda Car. The time of the meeting which was decided was 8 P.M.

According to the complaint, the officer took the man to the officer’s mess where the car had been parked. The officer sat with the man in the car and the suspect took it for a test drive. After the test drive, the suspect asked the colonel to step out to see whether the car has any scratch marks. He then allegedly threw chilli powder in the officer’s eyes and sped away. However, he ran out of luck when he got stuck in jam. He continued to drive and in the melee, rammed the car against the main gate of the officer’s mess.

Afraid of getting caught, the abandoned the vehicle and fled.

The Lt. Col. then approached the police and lodged a complaint. Based on the CCTV footage, the police has identified the suspect and is on the lookout of the accused.
