Man kills wife, walks into police station

Yasmeen alleged that his wife used to torture and even hit him. He strangled her in a fit of rage.

New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a man walked into a police station after strangling his wife to death in northwest Delhi’s Subhash Place area. The accused has been identified as Mohommad Yaseen (22) who hails from West Bengal.

Yaseen came to the police station on Tuesday and told the police that he has strangulated his wife, Janhavi, with a rope. He was arrested after the police recovered the body from their home in Shakurpur.

The police said Yaseen, earning a livelihood by working as a tailor, had been at loggerheads with his wife Jahanvi (20). He alleged that his wife used to torture him on daily basis. The couple had a heated exchange which culminated in the murder.

According to the police, even before the control room was alerted, or cops could reach the spot, Yaseen landed up at the police station on Tuesday and narrated his crime.

The police immediately rushed to the spot and recovered the body of the deceased. The body had been sent for the post-mortem.

A senior police official said, as per accused his wife used harass him a lot and often hit him. Distressed by this, the man strangled her to death in a fit of rage.

He reiterated his statement before the sub-divisional magistrate.According to Yaseen's statement, Janhavi again picked up a fight with him on Tuesday and in a fit of rage he strangled her with a piece of rope.

The relatives of the deceased have been informed about the incident and their statements are being recorded.

It was further revealed by relatives that the duo got married in January 2017 after a brief affair. The tension between the couple started soon after the marriage.

The police said the accused has been booked under appropriate Sections of the Indian Penal Code and further investigation is underway.
