NEW DELHI: A day after the Congress rejected the Aam Aadmi Party’s offer to stitch together with it in Delhi for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, many party workers said that the move had uplifted the morale of the party which had faced setbacks in Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

The party workers feel that Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s popularity was on decline as his image of a crusader against corruption and a leader who could bring a new revolution in the country, has been exposed.

Some Congress workers said that the BJP was yet to get a prominent face to counter the charisma of the 80-year-old former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit as the saffron party had suffered two major setbacks in the recent elections.

They said the party was unable to project any senior leader as its chief ministerial candidate after the death of veteran leaders like Madan Lal Khurana and Sahib Singh Verma.

The Congress’ move not to form any alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party is a major bolt to the newbie party that had promised to support it in Goa and Gujarat where Mr Kejriwal’s outfit had contested seriously in the last Assembly polls but failed to make much impact.

“Mr Kejriwal is one-time wonder whose charisma is fast losing sheen among the people of Delhi and the leaders of his own party. He exposed himself as he failed to perform. The development works in Delhi have been at halt ever since Aam Aadmi Party came to power. On the other side, Ms Sheila Dikshit is very well known for her development works. It now appears that by the time of next Vidhan Sabha elections in 2020, the Aam Aadmi Party will vanish from the political horizon,” said Delhi Congress working president Rajesh Lilothia.

The Congress accused the Aam Aadmi Party government of “failure” to ensure security to women in its four-year rule in Delhi. The party also slammed Bharatiya Janata Party for law and order situation in the national capital.

Delhi police is under the BJP-led Central government and it has also failed to control such cases in the national capital. Delhi has become the crime capital.
