New Delhi: In a horrific incident, a jilted lover barged into the house of his ex-girlfriend in Northwest Delhi and shot her on Saturday night. The accused was later arrested, the police said.

The 24-year-old girl from Delhi’s Ashok Vihar is a chartered accountant by profession. It is reported that the duo was in a relationship for five years. However, it didn’t end well and the girl broke up and got engaged to another man.

DCP (Northwest) Aslam Khan said a PCR call was received at 10.30 pm on Saturday. The victim was identified as Anshul Sharma (24). She was rushed to the hospital, where her condition is stable. She was kept in the ICU for treatment and it has been reported that she is now out of danger.

The accused, Harish, has been arrested under Section 307 of the IPC and relevant sections of the Arms Act. The weapon has been seized, the DCP added.

According to information, after shooting the girl the accused managed to escape from the spot. However, he was later found and arrested by the Delhi police. The whole incident was recorded on a CCTV camera installed in the street nearby.

The footage clearly showed the man running away from the girl’s house soon after the incident.

The accused was stalking her even after their breakup. Finding her engaged to another man, the rejected lover barged into her home and shot her. Police said the woman, who works in Gurgaon, had complained about him to her employer.

A lawyer, who works near the woman’s house, said that he came to know about the incident after checking the footage of the CCTV installed outside his office. He also said that he and his colleagues tried to chase the stalker.

“While working, we heard a firecracker-like sound in the area. Upon checking the CCTV of my office, we noticed a man running away. We immediately came out and found the dogs barking incessantly. Subsequently, we heard a woman wailing in pain,” said a relative.
