New Delhi: The Delhi police busted a gang that operated out of a fake call-centre, which cheated people by obtaining their OTPs and made fraudulent transactions.

The police said that the fraud came to light when complainant Rajiv Ranjan, a resident of Sangam Vihar, reported a about fraudulent transaction from his credit card.

According to him, some days ago he received a call from an unknown number and was asked the details of his Citibank credit card. The caller made him believe that he would get reward points based on his answer.

He was asked the OTP sent on his mobile number. The complainant, in good faith, shared the same with the caller. However, no reward points were added to his credit card account.

The complainant followed up the matter with the Citibank, he came to know that Rs 18,000 was deducted from his account.

On receiving the complaint, a case under Section 420 of the IPC was lodged at Neb Sarai police station.

During the probe, a ‘mini call centre’ by the name of Sadhana Creations was identified at Uttam Nagar and accused Rinku, 24, was arrested on Dec. 2.

The police recovered around 20 mobile phones, six fake employee cards of HDFC Bank, and 13 SIM cards. It was also revealed that the accused, along with his aides, Suraj and Sadhana, had tied up with Finmart firm where they sent documents for fresh credit card and personal loans.

On Sunday, one Sadhana, 23, of Madhu Vihar was arrested. So far, the police have solved nine online cheating cases.
