New Delhi: The process of equipping 6,350 Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses and cluster buses with CCTV cameras has already started.

The Delhi government has sought to hire a consultant for helping in execution of the project. The consultant will help in identifying a ‘system integrator’ that will help provide hardware, software and workforce and also be responsible for the project’s maintenanace and implement it the same foer at least five years, an official of the Delhi transport department said.

A request for proposal (RFP) has been issued to hire the consultant, he said. The aim was to ensure safety and security of the passengers, particularly women commuters.

Each bus would be fitted with three IP-based cameras. Screens of a proper size would be installed in each bus to telecast the output from the cameras in a systematic manner.

The video captured by each camera could be viewed in real time from a control room. Live feed would also be available as and when needed, the RFP document said.

The project would ensure access of all CCTV recordings from the control room. The data would be stored, monitored and analysed at the central command and control centre to be set up as part of the project, it stated.

At present, under DTC and cluster scheme, 5,500 buses are plying on city  in the city. Tenders are will be floated soon as the department was planning to buy 1,000 is buses each for DTC and cluster scheme and tenders are to be floated soon.
