Out of control SUV kills biker in Saket, leaves another hurt

According to the police, the accident took place at around 10am at Khoka Market in South Delhi’s Saket.

New Delhi: In a hit-and-run case, an overspeeding SUV Mahindra Scorpio allegedly being driven in rash and negligent manner spelt doom on city streets on Friday morning. 

The driver of the SUV apparently lost control of the vehicle and hit two pedestrians, before collided with a motorycle and crushing to death a pillion rider under it wheels. The driver of the motorcyle has been injured. Finally, the speeding vehicle hit a cyclist before fleeing from the spot, 

According to the police, the accident took place at around 10am at Khoka Market in South Delhi’s Saket. The deceased pillion rider has been identified as Narendra, 27, while his brother, who was riding the mobike, has been identified as Suresh, 30. The injured pedestrians have been identified as Dinesh, 32, and Ganesh, 31, the police added.

The police said that the rashly-driven SUV, after hitting the two pedestrians at the Asian market and made its way towards  Sector 1 in Pushp Vihar. 

Additional deputy commissioner of police Chinmoy Biswal said that the accused, who was driving the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner, took a left turn for the Khoka market, a bike ridden by Suresh. His younger brother Narender, who was riding pillion was knocked down and crushed. 

The police rushed the he injured persons to a hospital where Narender was declared dead on arrival. He had succumbed to his injuries, the doctors at the hospital said. 

Others are undergoing treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences trauma centre, Mr Biswal said. “Efforts are on to identify the accused sports utility vehicle and the driver with the help of closed ciruit television (CCTV) camera footage,” the officer added.
