New Delhi: Political deliberations begin in Delhi amid speculations of a mid-term poll. Sources said the decision by the Election Commission (EC), over the 20 AAP MLAs, would set the tone for future course in the national capital. BJP has already launched its door-to-door campaign in the name of “vistarak” programme.

The BJP is anticipating disqualification of 20 AAP MLAs, who were appointed as parliamentary secretaries. A party insider claimed that at least half-a-dozen AAP legislators were already in touch with BJP after its massive victory in the civic polls. They have expressed their willingness to switch loyalty. However, the party is yet to make a call.

“Further, eight other MLAs are also likely to face disqualification under office-of-profit for being appointed as chairpersons of Rogi Kalyan Samitis in different government hospitals in the city,” he added. Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari said this was a favorable time for the expansion of the party through mass outreach programmes.

“Since June 23, our vistaraks are out in the field. They have been tasked with strengthening BJP’s ground in Delhi, adding over 1.5 lakh new members to the party,” Mr Tiwari said.

The vistaraks have been interacting with voters and creating awareness about government policies and the party’s vision.

“This also gives the party an opportunity to assess the functioning and popularity of the government on the lowest level,” added Mr Tiwari.

BJP has already deployed around 50,000 workers to reach out to the voters across the city along with 9,227 vistaraks. Delhi BJP general secretary Rajesh Bhatia told this newspaper that the party has trained 9,411 vistaraks, of whom 9,227 are in the field. These vistaraks are assisted by over 45,000 BJP workers at the booth levels.

Meanwhile, in an attempt to reach out to the first time voters, Delhi BJP has appealed the youths to get enrolled in the voter list.
