New Delhi: A woman was allegedly attacked and threatened with rape in front of her husband when she took her grandmother for treatment to the Safdarjung Hospital. The couple alleged that some hospital staff manhandled them and issued a rape threat to the woman and physically assaulted them on Friday. However, the hospital authority also blamed the man for provoking the hospital staff as he was allegedly caught filming the procedure of reviving a patient in the emergency ward despite being repeatedly asked not to, which trigged the incident.

The complainant, Vipin Chauhan, and his wife, who are residents of Kalkaji area, had gone to Safdarjung Hospital’s emergency ward on Friday evening for the treatment of their grandmother. They went to ward number 100 where the doctor treated their grandmother.

While the treatment was going on, Mr Chuhan was allegedly caught filming another patient whom some doctors were trying to revive. Upon being asked not to film the procedure by the hospital staff, Mr Chauhan allegedly became infuriated.

“The doctor, women staff, and some seven to eight bouncers of the hospital took me and my wife to another room and thrashed both of us brutally. They even warned me of dire consequences and threatened my wife with rape,” he said.

Medical director Anil Rai confirmed the incident and blamed Mr Chauhan for provoking the hospital staff with his alleged misconduct. “Our staff was trying to revive a patient and at the same time, the complaint was filming the incident. When the doctor asked him to stop filming, he became aggressive. This led to the confrontation,” Mr Rai said.

The medical director downplayed the incident, saying that the complainant did not receive any injuries during the minor scuffle.

Meanwhile, the Delhi police filed a complaint under relevant sections of the IPC and a probe is underway. “We have also received complaints from the hospital authority against the complainant,” the police said.
