New Delhi: A scribe from a vernacular press was allegedly brutally assaulted by men in khakhi while he was allegedly trying to uncover a crime in Delhi’s Jehangirpuri area. Taking note of the alleged assault, two policemen have been sent to the district lines.

The two policemen  have been identified as sub-inspectors Johny and Himanshu. Awadhesh Kumar (28), a scribe with a news channel, was allegedly rouged up and assaulted by policemen in Northwest Delhi’s Jehangirpuri on Friday evening when he had gone to the spot to report a crime.

In his complaint, the scribe stated that he was reporting inside Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial (BJRM) Hospital around 6 pm when the assault took place.

“Two groups had clashed with each other in Mahendra Park area. Both the parties were brought to BJRM hospital. I was taking a video when three policemen came and asked me what I was doing. They asked why I was taking the video and I told them that I was a journalist. They took me by the hand and started beating me with their stick,” alleged Mr Kumar.

He further charged that when he pleaded with the policemen to show mercy, they ignored him. However, the police claimed that Mr Kumar was asked to stay away from the spot as the clash between the two groups had turned ugly.
