New Delhi: The Delhi government has set a target of setting up 1,000 mohalla clinics by March next year to provide “quality health services” to all Delhiites, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Friday.

After inaugurating two mohalla clinics at night shelter complexes at Dandi Park and Sarai Kale Khan ISBT, he said that the file relating to setting up of 1,000 mohalla clinics has been sent to the lieutenant-governor and hoped it would be cleared within 10 days.

“The L-G has stopped file of 1,000 mohalla clinics following which the government won’t be able to set up all of them by the end of this year. I hope that 1,000 mohalla clinics will be built by March 31 next year. These mohalla clinics are aimed at providing quality health services to the people of Delhi,” he said.

Mr Kejriwal said the two mohalla clinics inaugurated on Friday would give the right of health services to the homeless.

The government has also formed 18 rescue teams which will work from 10 pm to 4 am daily. These teams will roam around the city to find homeless people sleeping in the open during winter months and shift them to night shelters.

“This is the first time that poor people are being given respected lives by the AAP government. Earlier, whichever political party formed government, it used to forget after winning election. But, our government is taking care of the poor,” he said.

The government has also launched a mobile application through which one can upload images of homeless persons sleeping in the open and thereafter, rescue team of Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board will shift them to the nearest night shelters.

He claimed officers working in Delhi used to focus on “earning” money during previous governments, but they are now enjoying serving the people as AAP has adopted zero tolerance against corruption.
