New Delhi: Close on the heels of the murder of a 55-year-old woman in Moti Nagar last Thursday, a septuagenarian couple was found murdered at their residence in north-west Delhi’s Ashok Vihar on Saturday morning.

Deceased Ram Kailash Bhutani (76), a retired government official in the ministry of finance, and his wife Kaushal(72), a retired Kendriya Vidyalaya teacher, had been living in Deep Enclave for the last 25 years and had hired Dinesh on August 27 as their night attendant. The incident came to light at about 9.30 am after Ram Kailash’s brother-in-law A.C. Chawla went to check on them.

According to the police, Ram Kailash was suffering from paralysis since a long time. Due to the medical condition, the couple had hired a male nurse to look after him. Probe reveals that the couple had no children out of the wedlock and used to stay alone in an independent house in Ashok Vihar’s Phase 3 for the last 25 years. The police said they are looking for the 25-year-old domestic help, who was hired by the couple than a week ago.

The male nurse, who used to stay with the deceased, was hired from a home-nursing placement agency in Paharaganj. The suspect, who has been identified as Dinesh, has been on the run since the murder came to light. The police has formed eight teams to crack the murder case of the couple and is questioning the suspect’s family living in Jehangirpuri. The probe further reveals that Mr Chawla used to call them on a daily basis to know about their health.

On Saturday too, Mr Chawla made a call to the couple at 5 am, but his call went unanswered. Sensing something amiss, Mr Chawla made a call to a relative around 8 am for updates regarding the couple. He was told that they had been taken to hospital on Friday night. Mr Chawla grew suspicious and informed the police. The couple murdered inside the house after a police team visited the spot and broke open the house.
