New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed a review petition of death row convict Vasant Dupare, who was given a death sentence for rape and murder of a minor in 2008.

He is currently lodged in the Nagpur jail.

One of the lawyers representing Dupare confirmed to ANI that his review petition was dismissed.

Dupare's death sentence was confirmed by the top court on November 26, 2014.

The crime dates back to 2008, when Dupare raped and murdered a four-year-old girl.

After finding him guilty in 2010, the trial court sentenced him to death.

In 2011, the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court held that Dupare had not received a fair trial. On the basis of the arguments put forward, the trial court set aside his sentence and remanded the case back to the trial court.

However, the trial court in February 2012 again convicted and sentenced Dupare.

In March 2012, the High Court confirmed the sentence by dismissing Dupare's appeal.
