CP Metro wall honours Indian Nobel laureates

The aim is to spread awareness about the Nobel laureates from India and their contribution to the society.

New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) along with the Embassy of Sweden jointly inaugurated the Nobel Memorial Wall at Rajiv Chowk metro station on Wednesday. 

The aim is to spread awareness about the Nobel laureates from India and their contribution to the society. The wall will be on display from Nov. 1 to 7 at the interchange Metro station.

The one of its kind wall exhibits paintings by the students from top fine arts college in Delhi-NCR region. 

The portraits of Rabindranath Tagore, Sir C.V. Raman, Hargobind Khorana, Mother Teresa, S. Chandrasekhar, Amartya Sen, Venkatraman Ramakrishnan and Kailash Satyarthi were selected by way of a painting competition conducted by the Embassy.

The jury for the comnpetition comprised India Today Group editor Kaveree Bamzai, artist Naresh Kapuria, and head of economic section at the Embassy Josa Karre.

Anna Ekstrom, Swedish minister for upper secondary school and Mangu Singh, managing director, DMRC unveiled the wall.

Ms Ekstrom said, “ I feel honoured to inaugurate the Nobel Memorial Wall. From the first non-European Nobel laureate, Mr Tagore as well as the first non-European Nobel science laureate Sir C.V. Raman, to a modern day fighter for children’s rights, Mr Satyarthi, the remarkable contributions of the Indian Nobel laureates have inspired many people across the world.”
